The Pirate boat gig is over, and at least I got my guaranteed 50 bucks a show. Now into the gig as the 'Costumed Guide' for the Haunted Trolley Tours, and it's turning out to be the shits. A bunch of nights were cancelled due to slow sales, and the whole thing is disorganized beyond belief, and I'm getting blame for a whole slew of crap which I have absolutely nothing to do with such as leaving latecomers behind and not being given the Information I need to do my job...as if that wasn't bad enough, I received crap for using some non-PC language in front of a school group. Gee, have me do a 2-hour show telling tales of Death,Sex,Drugs and Murder in Vancouver over the decades and it's SHOCKING that there may be some potentially offensive subject matter.
I wouldn't care except that this crap is starting to hit me in the pocketbook, doing all the tours with no nights off would have netted about 2 grand, now I'll be lucky to clear half that. Would I have booked the Improv workshop in LA had I known? Maybe not, but there's no goin' back on that one.
...And it's the one thing I am excited about: first trip to LA ever, great workshop with the Artistic Director of the LA Second City who has a simple approach that I think really works for me, and a chance to see my pal Lionel Douglass for the first time in 15 years has me jazzed. Now if only I can find a cheap place to eat right near my motel...like for 50 bucks a week??? Dream on....
